So we’re a little late with our ad of the month for October – but that’s because we were pretty undecided, nothing much floats our boat this month. That’s probably because it’s the October lull, the calm before the Christmas storm and the seasonal batttle of the adverts.
But then we spotted Compare the Market’s latest effort, starring none other than screen legend Nicole Kidman. We were a little stunned at first. Is this really her or some (much younger looking, by the way!) lookalike? Would the Oscar winning actress who usually only commits to projects of significant artistic merit, really sign up to star alongside Sergei and Aleksandr in an ad for insurance comparison?! The mind boggles.
We’re not sure if Ms. Kidman is hard up at the moment or whether she just needs some PR in the UK, but this just goes to show that even the most discerning of film stars can be bought for promotional purposes of a cringeworthy nature. No-one bats an eyelid when she appears in Chanel ads, because that’s just so Kidman. But Compare the Market? We’d just like to know how much she cost!
So if you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the ad. If nothing else it will make you chuckle. It’s like watching an even weirder scene from Moulin Rouge where Satine’s love interest ends up being a small mammal from the savannah.
We’re looking for more freelance developers to join our ranks!
You must be creatively gifted, happy to collaborate and able to understand the aesthetics of beautiful websites, as well as how to effectively build the structure of a site in HTML; whilst creating a smooth and sleek UX.
If you can wow us with your skills and have a portfolio of past projects to show us, then please get in touch.
We’re more interested in talent and creativity than experience, so don’t worry if you don’t have the standard two years in the industry! We know there are more important things than that 😉
Those of you without a TV (or those who in an anti-consumerist rage, mute the TV and stomp off to brew up in an ad break) – you might have missed this little belter! A trippy brainchild of the J. Walter Thompson Agency.
It’s a perfect example of nonsensicalness in all it’s random glory. One of those ads that you can imagine having been conceived around the board table of a whacky agency, where even the Creative Director in his striped, skinny-fit suit, could only manage “WTF”? as the brainstorm got underway.
What makes it even more bonkers is the soundtrack, a song called Zooby Doo by quirky duo Tigermonkey. The ad is completely sympathetic to the music – watch it and you’ll see what we mean.
Well we here at Black Hare love this ad, we love it a lot! Rabbits sporting shades and moustaches, robins with arms, a woman riding two piggy-backing hedgehogs and owls with laser vision and lips – what’s not to love?!
If you haven’t seen it yet, what the devil are you waiting for…
Performance Networks is a rapidly growing company that services the connectivity needs of other businesses; installing WiFi networks and VoIP systems, creating bespoke internet access facilities and offering a unique solution allowing business to harvest their customers data, simply by asking them to log onto WiFi via their social media accounts. This sophisticated and clever innovation needed to be showcased to clients and prospects, along with the rest of their products and services.
After a busy period of growth, Performance Networks were ready to have their corporate identity refreshed and their marketing materials updated to match their new look and communicate their offering.
As an internet centric business, Performance Networks’ website would define everything else they did in terms of marketing. They wanted a site that featured photography, but they didn’t want it to look like many business websites that use cheesy stock images.
We sourced stunning, symbolic photography; created visually simple layouts with a clear user journey and clever use of infographics; created a new colour palette for use across all future collateral and wrote case studies and copy for new products and services. Then we created new business cards, wrote and designed new brochures and exhibition banners and delivered them all in print, to complete their fresh new look.

We’d really recommend them for their down to earth approach and quality of work.”
